Growing Guide
Mingimingi is common in swampy forest, in scrub, along stream banks and in stoney places. The male flowers occur in clusters of one to four on very short branches. Female flowers are found on their own at the ends of short branchlets.
Propagation: Allow the fruit to soften then wash and sow on a firm bed of seed raising mix, cover with mix and water thoroughly.
Cover with glass or plastic and place in a warm shady place until germination occurs in about nine months.
Mingimingi is a small tree or shrub growing to five to six metres that thrives on infertile soils.
It is thus an important coloniser of clay banks or peatland.
Flowers appear in the spring followed by tiny crimson or occasionally white fruit containing one seed early in the new year.
